How to set up Outlook Express Email Accounts

Before you start setting up an email account in Outlook Express, you should make you ready with following requirements:

  • Type of the email server, which can be POP3, IMAP, or HTTP

  • Name of incoming mail server

  • Name of outgoing mail server

  • Account name

  • Password

  • Check if your Internet Service Provider (ISP) wants you to activate Secure Password Authentication

You can collect all these information by contacting your ISP.

Once you have made you sure about the above-listed requirements, follow the steps given below to setup email account in Outlook Express:

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Outlook Express to launch it:

  1. After Outlook Express is started, click Accounts in the Tools menu:

  1. The “Internet Accounts” dialog box opens up. Here, click Add > Mail. The “Internet Connection Wizard” opens up.

Note: If you start Outlook Express for the first time after installation then the “Internet Connection Wizard” opens up automatically.

  1. Type your name in the Display name text box in the “Your Name” page of the wizard. This name appears to the users who will receive emails from you:

  1. Click the Next button. The “Internet E-mail Address” page of the wizard appears. At this page, enter your email address collected from your ISP:

  1. Click the Next button. The “E-mail Server Names” page of the wizard appears. Here, select the incoming mail server, type incoming mail server, and type outgoing mail server in their respective fields:

  1. Click the Next button. The “Internet Mail Logon” page of the wizard appears. Enter a password for your account in the Password field. If you do not want to keep password, the clear the Remember Password check box.

Moreover, if your ISP wants you to use the Secure Password Authentication then select the Log on using Secure Password Authentication check box.

  1. Click the Next button. The “Congratulations” page of the wizard appears:

  1. Click the Finish button.

With this, you are ready to send/receive emails. To check if the account is configured successfully or not, compose an email and send it to one of your friends.
